In the dreamtime

       C            G           C        F   - C                      Am          Dm    - G

1. The scent of smoke on desert wind    beneath the Southern Cross,

     C       G                C           F   - C                Am       Dm    - G

far beyond where time begins       and generations lost.

C                     F                         C

I could not be further from you now,

        Am          F           G

with both feet on the ground.

                    C            ~    G              C

But in the dreamtime      souls take flight,

       F         C     G          C

and I am closer to you now.

      C             G         C              F  - C                 Am         Dm      G

2. If I should lay me down to sleep     by forest green or shining lake,

C                G       C         F   - C                     Am       G        C

I could arise to find it gone      to take for granted my mistake

    Yet + CHORUS

        C              G       -  C            F     - C                Am        Dm       G

3. Mountains crumble,   forests vanish,    seeds awakened  by the fire,

  C       G           C               F            - C               Am         G              C

water, air and earth have born them    and I can feel my own ones near.

    Yet + CHORUS

  C                     G       - C           F   - C               Am          Dm       G

4.  Flames are dancing    in the fire,     timeless songs are on the air,

C            G        C                   F     - C                 Am          G         C

in the wilderness they're crying,     but there's laughter everywhere

                                                             F        C       G         C

And + CHORUS (ending in a) + and I am closer to you now.
