He’s alive

G Am
1. The gates and doors were
barred and all the windows fastened down,
G Am
I spent the night in sleeplessness and rose
at every sound.
Dm G Am
Half in hopeless sorrow and half in fear
that they
G Am
would find
us, soldiers breaking through, to drag us all away.
Am
G Am
2. Just before the sunrise,
there was something at the wall,
G Am
the gate began to rattle, a
voice began to call.
Dm
G Am
I hurried to the window, and looked
down into the street,
- G Am
expecting swords and torches, and the sounds of soldiers
feet.
Am G Am
3. There was no one there but
Mary, so I went down to let her in,
G Am
John stood there beside me, as she told us where she'd been.
Dm Am
She said: `They've
moved Him in the night, none of us knows where.
G Am
the stone's been rolled away,
now his body isn't there !
Am G Am
4. We both ran toward the
garden, then John ran on ahead,
G Am
we found the stone and the empty tomb, just the way that Mary
said.
Dm Am
The linen sheet, they wrapped Him in, was
just an empty shell,
G Am
how, or where'd they taken Him, was more than I could tell.
Am G Am
5. Something strange had happened there, but just what I did not know,
G Am
John believed a
miracle, but I just turned to go.
Dm G
Am
Circumstances, speculation couldn't lift me
very high,
- G Am
as I’d seen them crucify
Him, and I saw Him die.
Am G Am
6. Back inside the house
again, the guilt and anguish came,
G Am
erverything I've promised Him just added to my shame.
Dm
Am
When at last it
came to choices, I denied I knew His name,
- G Am
even if He was alive, it wouldn't be the same.
Am G Am
7. But suddenly the air was
filled with strange and sweet perfume,
G Am
light that came
from everywhere drove shadows from the room.
Dm G Am
Jesus stood
before me with His arms held open wide,
G Am
and I fell down on my knees
and just clung to Him and cried.
Am G Am
8. He raised me to my feet
and I looked into His eyes,
G C
love was shining
out from Him like sunlight from the skies.
F G Am
Guilt and my
confusion disppeared in sweet release,
G A ~ A - C - G - D
and every fear I’d ever had
just melted into peace.
Am C G
He is alive, He is alive, He is alive and I'm forgiven,
D
heaven's gates are open wide. (3x)
Am C G - D - Am
He is alive, He
is alive, He is ali…..ve.
